Before he changed the way basketball is played in the NBA, Stephen Curry was just a skinny sophomore at Davidson College with a wicked jump shot and zero fear.
In the 2008 NCAA Tournament, Curry became a household name overnight. He averaged 32 points per game and led 10-seed Davidson past Gonzaga, Georgetown, and Wisconsin, reaching the Elite Eight. Along the way, he dropped 40 points on Gonzaga, 30 against Georgetown, and 33 against Wisconsin—all against major conference teams.
Despite eventually losing a nail-biter to Kansas, Curry’s performance was historic. He broke the NCAA Tournament record for most three-pointers in a single tourney and set the stage for his future NBA superstardom.
What’s more amazing? Davidson had not won a tournament game in 39 years before that run. Curry didn’t just make noise—he put Davidson on the national map.
