When most NHL players are enjoying retirement in their 40s, Jaromir Jagr was still lacing up his skates—and still scoring.
The Czech hockey legend, born in 1972, played his final NHL season in 2017–18 with the Calgary Flames at age 45. But he didn’t stop there. He continued his pro career in the Czech Extraliga with his hometown team, Rytíři Kladno—a team he owns—well into his 50s. As of 2025, Jagr is still on the team’s roster, making him one of the oldest active professional hockey players in the world.
Jagr’s NHL resume is jaw-dropping: 1,733 games played, 766 goals, 1,155 assists, and a total of 1,921 points—second only to Wayne Gretzky in league history. He won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins and collected five Art Ross Trophies along the way.
What kept Jagr going? Relentless fitness, a love for the game, and a fierce commitment to performance—even in his later years. “Hockey is my life,” he once said, and it shows.
